HYANNIS — Perhaps you're walking down Main Street in Hyannis, looking for a good place to eat with family and friends. Or maybe you're a vacationer searching for deals on souvenirs.
Whatever you're looking for, whether it be salt water taffy or ice cream shops, a new app for iPhones and iPads — and coming soon for other devices — has you covered.
The Hyannis Main Street Business Improvement District recently announced a $3,000 partnership with Zonas, an app designer. Its mobile app provides business listings, attractions, restaurants, events, and maps of downtown Main Street, Hyannis.
"We thought we would help make it easier for visitors and locals by helping people find out what's here," said Elizabeth Wurfbain, director of the business improvement district.
The Zonas app updates information about companies, properties and events through a mobile phone, tablet or on the Zonas website.
With the help of the Zonas mobile app, the Hyannis Main Street BID has created an up-to-date, accurate listing of the 120 businesses located on Main Street. It provides businesses' locations, hours, websites and contact information in a click of a button or a tap. Users can also share information about businesses on social networks like Facebook or Twitter.
The app will allow users to be in direct contact with business owners, giving them the opportunity to send feedback directly from the app.
"You really get to customize your experience. The app lets you know the best places to go to," Wurfbain said.
While the app provides information about Hyannis, Zonas also provides information about downtown Nantucket.
"We started out working with the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce, and through them we were able to start working with Hyannis and Nantucket," Tom Gould, co-founder of Zonas mobile app said. "We are just continuing to expand every week."
The app also has information about Wequassett Resort in Harwich, Ocean Edge Resort in Brewster and the Hawks Cay Resort in Duck Key, Florida.
According to Wurfbain, the Hyannis Main Street BID hopes the Zonas app will provide more direct information about shops and restaurants located on the Cape and Islands. The app will also be available to Android users in late summer or early fall, according to the Zonas website.
